Eclipse Module: Bevel Gears
The four bevel gear sets were made next, the inputs are all 3/32” rods and the outputs are the coaxial tubes (1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”). I originally aimed to use the same tooth counts everywhere and just vary the ID, but the range was too great to be practical so the larger two (nodal and apsidal) are 24T and the smaller two (sun and moon) are 18T. The apsidal also has some intentional feature for a future tensioner, unique since. it is the only one of the four that reverses direction. These were all cut using the constant depth bevel gear approach, as described in Ivan Law’s book.
