Calculation Gear Cutting Mostly Done
Cutting gears for the Calculation Modules is proceeding well, about ~80% done at this point and have been verifying good meshing as each gear pair is available. Next will be bonding the gears to the arbors at the correct height, I’ve made a trio of stair-step height setters for the six levels/planes of gears in the assembly.
I have had addition concerns of backlash in this assembly, and have means available to address them that I’d only like to use if necessary. Unfortunately it will not be clear if they are necessary until nearly final assembly, so at this stage I am simply ensuring that there are means to add them. These include:
Addition of friction sources at targeted locations. These include at the lunar anomaly dovetail, which will need to be sufficient to resist the lunar anomaly cable tension to ensure that there is no “over-center” force that would force a torque reversal on the eccentrics. Also at eccentrics feeding differentials, potentially in the eccentric yokes themselves.
Potentially anti-backlash gears. I’ve always wanted to make one, but they are rather complex so I’d rather not need many.
