Painting the Case
The case exterior is made from 1/2” baltic birch plywood, with a couple coats of sealer and painted with flat black enamel. It is made in two pieces: the top with box frame, and the bottom. The two are separated by a layer of thin foam to provide some damping and held together on the interior by two chains.
Sanded between coats
Final coat.
With the glass and uprights in house, I made a 1:1 pattern to determine the upright mounting locations. I was concerned with the glass coming in with dimensional variation but it was accurate to the scale I could measure it.
