Finishing the Orrery
The Orrery is complete! Or at least all the parts are finished, final assembly will need to happen on the clock itself. Beyond just finishing all of the gears, the aluminum arms were also needed. Really the only critical dimension is the center hole to the outer post hole, but I threw in some lightening holes to reduce the torque and give it a more aerospace-ey feel. These were all drilled out of a single plate of 1/8” aluminum and then cut out with the bandsaw and filed to shape. Each arm post will receive a magnet that will hold the steel ball planet on the front of the dial.
