Tragically my faithful DIY digital indexer died on me, but it proved the concept and was due for an upgrade.

Improvements:

  • Added a Sherline bed under the headstock to be able to use a tailstock for support

  • Increased belt gear ratio (from 60/20 to 120/15)

  • Mounted on a 3/4” fixture plate for stiffness

  • Added diagonal stiffener to headstock

  • Added dedicated bearing to help offload lateral force on stepper motor

  • Improved electrical packaging, more modularization with connectors

  • Fully sealed box to prevent debris ingress

  • Added zero-adjust software mode, to allow dialing in on an existing gear tooth

  • Added continuous rotation mode, up to ~20 RPM

  • Added port for accessory switch (future automatic index with bed rewind)
