Carbon Escape Wheel
Finished the new escape wheel, which is a bonded assembly of carbon fiber frames with Delrin AF teeth and a Delrin hub. Final weight is around 3g. Primary concern was being able to bond the Delrin well, I ended up using Loctite 770 primer and Loctite 406. I didn’t see much effect of the primer, but the 406 bonded much better than I worried it would
Cutting out the carbon frames from 0.5mm (.020”) sheet stack, double stacked between two sacrificial acrylic plates for backing. Retrospectively would have used cast acrylic since the extruded acrylic partially melted into a bit of a mess.
The finished component parts: 2 carbon frames, the Delrin hub, and the 5 Delrin AF teeth. I added some holes to the teeth to help the adhesive flow in and get more of a mechanical bond.
All parts bonded and ready for post-machining to trim everything to dimension
